Dear Patients and Friends of the practice,
We wanted to let you know that we will continue to remain open for treatment during the latest National lockdown. The Chief Dental Officer has indicated that as dentistry is an essential medical service, patients are entitled to travel for medical appointments including dental appointments.
This echoes the Government guidance on the national lockdown which says, “The majority of public services will continue and you will be able to leave home to visit them. These include the NHS and medical services like GPs and dentists”.
Whilst we will prioritise any urgent cases and high needs cases, we have systems in place now which will allow most non urgent treatment to proceed using our current rigorous precautions. This means that if you are fit and well, and not isolating to protect vulnerable contacts, we are happy to continue to see you for examinations and hygienist appointments, as well as completion of any ongoing treatment.
All patients attending the practice will need to answer the COVID-19 screening questions the day before their appointment either by means of the portal, or by telephone call with a member of the team. The patient journey details remain unchanged, and we would encourage you to read it before you attend as it contains important information.
We now have a shelter at the front of the building if you arrive in bad weather and we are unable to admit you immediately to the practice, but please remember not to arrive too early.
Clinically extremely vulnerable patients (shielded patients who have had a letter) should consider carefully and discuss with the clinical team whether or not they need to attend the practice.
The practice will not be able to offer face to face treatment to patients who have COVID-19 , but may be able to help by phone or video consultation, or by signposting to urgent Care Centres if appropriate.
Hayley and the reception team will be able to deal with any queries you may have, but please e-mail them if your query is not urgent as the phone lines are very busy. If you have an appointment but do not feel you wish to attend, we will be happy to reschedule it for you.
We hope we can minimise any disruption to you but please bear with us if we need to alter any appointments at short notice. Several team members might also have childcare issues which can be difficult to solve as you all know. Your patience and understanding is always much appreciated.
On a positive note, compared to last year, almost half of the population (43%) feel more motivated to make changes to their life in January. We wish everybody luck if they have decided to do this.
Keep yourselves and your loved ones safe and warm, and we look forward to seeing you all as soon as possible
The Team at Goldsworth Road Dental Centre
